Spring firn snow between the main crest of the Zillertal and the Pfunder Mountains
The ascent on skis of the biggest, partially glaciated summits (Hohe Wand 3281m, Schrammacher 3410m, Kraxentrager 2999m, Rotbachspitze 2897m) in this unique high-lying valley is, on the one hand, a challenge physically and mentally and, on the other, the only possibility to substitute the endless downward summer trek with a breathtaking, speedy descent. Our objectives in the Pfunder mountains (Grabspitze 3059m, Rübespitze 2759m, Felbespitze 2849m Rotes Beil 2949m) are protected from being inundated with visitors by a belt of forest, which requires skill and local knowledge to overcome. And then, beyond the tree line, the ski-tourer will find the best firn or powder snow slopes which the alpine world can offer. To round off the tour, afternoon refreshment is available on the sunny terrace of the Neuwirt in St. Jacob.
