The mountain world which is called “Dolomiti oltre Piave” by the local people, belongs to one of the most unspoilt mountain regions of the whole alpine massif. In summer, this nature park with its “pathways of silence” connects the valley folk and the small huts. In winter, however, no traces of these huts are to be seen, providing the ski-tourer with the opportunity of making his own tracks over deep snow-filled corries and ridges in the rugged mountain world of the Dolomites.
The most well-known summit in this region is a bold climbing tower called the Campanile della Val Montanaia. Most of the other peaks and ridges have no description and require inquisitiveness and a love of exploring to find a way over them. A comfortable guest house in the village centre in Vico (Forni di sopra) with good Friulanish cuisine acts as a base for our daily excursions in this trackless winter world. This place also boasts its own brewery away from the” modern hectic world”.
